This song arose from an image I couldn't shake. After my husband and I had sold the contents of his mother's condo, we discovered a kitchen drawer chock full of knives. He grabbed a little suitcase, dumped the knives in, and clicked it shut. We dropped it off at Goodwill with a devilish chuckle, imagining the surprise of the person fated to crack the lid.
The key line is not what you expected, which has become something we say frequently to describe our current situation.
